Hi there Ryceballs it is I Ry-Spirit of the East. Here to talk about something that I have never mentioned much before.. And that is the topic of 'Rivals'.
Ash had Gary Oak, Goku had Vegeta, Naruto had Sasuke. Do you believe that having a rival can help you improve in whatever you do? I do. I remember back in High School I got lots of praises from my classmates for being the greatest at drawing, I liked to draw in my diaries and homeworks alot Which explains why my marks were soooo FREAKIN TERRIBLE!. And there was a friend (I used the term very loosely) who would always try to find ways to make people feel like crap, this time it was no exce

Secret to Success: Draw with your balls out
Happy new ears my brothers and sisters. I hope you had a good break, but now its time to get back to work! And Ry here has a pro tip for you, something I have kept to myself but I think you as an artist should know about and adapt this habit. Its actually not that complicated, you should just always Draw with your balls out.
A wise man by the name of John Rambo once told us that we should 'Stay ballsy'. We should not let our fear overtake us, we should dive head in into obstacles and fight the demons without fear and without worries. Well I have taken that approach and incorporated it into my drawing, believe it or not I have never been conf

ALWAYS SIGN YOUR WORK and other stuff
Hi folks. I was gonna make this journal sooner or later, but there's not a more appropriate time than NOW, when my 'Sorry we're closed' http://ry-spirit.deviantart.com/art/Sorry-we-re-CLOSED-162673296 artwork got posted on 9gag right http://m.9gag.com/gag/6281912 ! Not only did the person not credit the artist or link it to my page or whatever, they even changed the title of this artwork to 'S**t Happens'. Come on man... WHAT ALSO sucks is that back then I had a different logo, its like that box with a thunder symbol on it, it doesn't have my username on it either... so people could just look at that picture and have no idea who drew it. I me
Alright, I know this is a huge thing in the adoptable community (or, well, the art community in general). I just want to say that, while I know for some my prices may be seen as overpriced, in most cases they are auction adoptables and thus people only pay what they're comfortable with (and whether that be $10 or $100+, please be respectful to the people who do choose to spend their money as they like).
I personally feel the art community is urged to underprice themselves. You don't have to agree with me, but that's what I've gathered from seeing artists over the years. But I'm going to talk about my art for this, specifically adoptables,

Getting Noticed aka becoming *Popular*
How do you get ahead on deviantART?I am actually asked this question a lot. And in reality, many artists with lots of watchers are asked this question fairly frequently by both old and new deviantART members. There are actually several different ways to get attention on deviantART, but not all those ways are good and most work best when combined together. Let's look at them all individually and then discuss "best practices."
But what is "popular?"
Is being popular just a status symbol for you to make you happy? Is it an arbitrary number assigned to an inanimate object like a pageview? It is a silly symbol by your username that means virtuall

Tips on How To Get Commissions
I wrote a new Journal on Tips on How to Get Commissions with waaay more info! Check it out!
When offering commissions, it can be very hard to get yourself noticed, what with the hundreds of thousands of other artists out there. People gripe about how pageviews aren’t important, but they are a helpful tool for you to see what kind of traffic flow you’re attracting. The more views you get, the more of a chance there is that one of those viewers is interested in commissioning you.
Gigonomics is a term I heard about a few months ago at an FLBA conference. After Googling it, many people seem to be using it in a slightly different way,

I think I have given enough advices to different people of the same thing I might as well write a journal about it. (So I can be lazy and just pass the link to them later.)

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO START
When you have enough watchers and people interested in your art.
When you have a closely-bounded community around your work/gallery
How many is enough I won't say, because it soly depends on the community around you and your work. Some artists can live on one patron, others need to live on millions of them.

Six Ways to Earn More Commissions
If you’re serious about earning an income with your art, then you have to be serious about marketing yourself. If you’re like me, you hate selling… you don’t like rejection, it makes you nervous and you think you’re no good at it. That’s why we’re artists and not salesmen. Fortunately marketing yourself is kind of an art form. Although I don’t have all the answers, I’d like to share a little of what I’ve learned about the art of marketing ourselves.

I've been commissioning artists for a little over two years now, starting with site money on GaiaOnline and moving to dA from there. One thing that's hard for me to ignore is the number of artists who are concerned about being scammed, either because they've gone through that experience before or because the stories and warnings of it happening all the time proliferate. Commissioners have their own concerns about being scammed by artists. The simple fact of the matter is that it happens.
However, I think a good portion of the problem is that many people who want to commission an artist have no experience doing so, and it's not as easy to
